January 6, 1935 - September 13, 2010

Walter Lee Dotson, resident of Ponca City, passed away at his home on Monday, September 13, 2010. He was 75. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Rev. Herb Berkley, officiating and Rev. Leon Parker, assisting. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Walter was born on January 6, 1935 to Andrew and Marie Dotson in Osage County, OK. He attended Primary School at Enterprise School, east of Ponca City. After fifth grade his family moved to Ponca City, OK where he attended school and in 1954, he became the first high school graduate in his family. In 1955, Walter met and married the love of his life, Joyce Gayle Shaw. The couple moved to Blackwell, OK where he worked at various jobs including the Jewel Tea Company. After taking early retirement from the Jewel Tea Company, he opened Dotson Auto Sales in Ponca City in 1981. Walter owned and operated his business until he was forced to retire due to his declining health in March 2009. He lived in Ponca City, OK for the last eleven years of his life. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Blackwell, OK. Walter enjoyed attending antique tractor shows and auctions. His greatest joys, however, came from his faith, his friends, and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joyce Dotson; 3 wonderful children: Terry Dotson and wife Barbara of Ponca City, Lesa Haymaker and husband Tim of Kaw City, OK, Randy Dotson and wife Janie of Garland, TX.; Five grandchildren: Gina, Kindra, Brandy, Bryce, and Braden; Three great grandchildren: Trey, Sataiya, and Jaxon; and Three step grandchildren and Three step great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers and one great grandson Micah Dotson.
