John LeRoy Caldwell, III
March 10, 1964 - December 30, 2004

John LeRoy Caldwell III, Ponca City resident, died, Thursday, December 30, 2004 of an aneurysm at the OU Medical Center, Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was 40.

The funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 1, 2005 at St. Luke's Church of the Nazerene with Pastor David Frees officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are made under the direction of Trout Funeral Home. John was born on March 10, 1964 in Stillwater to Johnny L. Jr. and Barbara L. (Murray) Caldwell. He graduated from Marland High School in 1981. He attended Pioneer Area Vocational School. He was previously employed by Asplundh Tree Trimming and Midco. He was employed by the City of Ponca City in the Park and Recreational Department at the time of his death. On September 20, 1986 he married Michelle Duncan in Ponca City. They had two sons. John joined the United States Navy in 1988 and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and served on the USS Puget Sound during Operation Desert Storm. He then served on the USS Hue City while stationed in Mayport, Florida. He was discharged from the Navy in 1995. On August 23, 1997, he then married Christi Payne in Ponca City. They had two daughters. John adored his children and enjoyed sports, yard work, water activities, and the Pittsburg Steelers. He was a member of St. Luke's Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by: his parents of Ponca City, two sons Matthew Caldwell and Andrew Caldwell and their mother Michelle Kuchera all of Tonkawa; two daughters Courtney Caldwell and Ali Caldwell and their mother Christi Caldwell all of Bartlesville; one brother Chris Caldwell and his wife Shelli; two sisters Jeanne Gory and her husband Neil and Dianna Monks and her husband Alan all of Ponca City; paternal grandfather John L. Caldwell Sr. of Ponca City, maternal grandmother Lillie Murray of Stillwater and his nieces and nephews Kayla, Kelsey, and Michael Caldwell, Stephen and Blake Gory, and Dodger and Brooklyn Monks. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Oral Murray and paternal grandmother, Arelena (Cooke) Caldwell.

Casket bearers will be Charles Lee Smith, Bobby Gene Ratliff, Randy Caldwell, Cory Jones, Ted Thomas, and Calvin Lewis. Honorary casket bearers will be Donald Landrath and the City of Ponca City's Park and Recreation Department employees.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union Suite 103, Ponca City, OK 74601.

The family will be at 2135 Garden Street in Ponca City.
