Drew Little Warrior

Drew Little Warrior, Ponca City resident, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at Ponca City Nursing Home. He was 82.

A traditional noon feast will be held on Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at the Ponca Indian Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in the Ponca Indian Cemetery, under the direction of Trout Funeral Home.

Drew Little Warrior, son of James Little Warrior and Mabel (Little Man Stands Up) Little Warrior was born Nov. 20, 1921 on the Ponca Indian Reservation. He attended Union school and Sunny Side school, both west of Ponca City, Pawnee Indian school and East Jr. High. Drew graduated from Ponca City High School. Drew lettered in track and won many medals during his track career in Jr. high and high school.

On Dec. 3, 1942, Drew joined the United States Army and proudly served our country. He was a combat infantry man who fought with the 45th infantry division all through the European Campaign. He was stationed in Sicily, North Africa and Italy during his service, earning a EAME theater ribbon, one bronze service star, a WWII Victory Ribbon and a Purple Heart. He was wounded in Sicily and was honorably discharged on Dec. 3, 1945.

Drew was married to Augustine Elk in Winfield, Kan. They made their home in Ponca City, where he worked in construction as a building contractor for the Edwards Co. for 12 years. Drew was a member of the American Legion Buffalo Post 38, the DAV, the VFW 9145 and the American Legion-Huff Minor Post 14. He enjoyed fishing and attending the Ponca Indian Methodist Church, where he was long-time member. He was also a proud member of the Horse Chief Eagle Descendents.

He is survived by his children, Ava Pewewardy of Irving, TX, Nellie Roughface of Ponca City, Woodrow S. Kent of Tulsa, John E. Kent, Dakota Kent and Jay Isham, all of Ponca City and his daughter, Pat Jackson of Bennington, Okla. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and an infant child.

The family will be at 517 S. 10th.

Casket bearers will be J.R. Kent, Ivan Cries For Ribs, Jimmy Kemble, Orlando Williams, Jr., Jimmy Roughface and Galvis White Eagle.
