Sally D. Gayton died surrounded by her loving family, her daughter Marjorie Sanchez-Meade and Son-In-Law Michael Meade, early Sunday Afternoon, August 23, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Tonkawa, OK. Sally had been fighting Ovarian Cancer and became too weak for Chemotherapy treatments. She was 84 years old.

The daughter of William and Ruth Helen (Waters) Overland, Sally was born November 30, 1935 at Pawnee Indian Hospital. She grew up in White Eagle, married Aaron Gayton and had 11 children: Shirley Nazario (deceased), Aaron John Gayton (deceased), Alex Michael Gayton of Cleveland, OH, Marjorie Sanchez-Meade of Tonkawa, OK, Sara Morales (deceased), Wheeler Gayton and wife Irma Gayton of Florida, Mary Gayton of Texas, Helen Ruth Salinas (deceased), Theresa Gayton (deceased), Joyce Gayton of Cleveland, OH, and Augustine Gayton of Cleveland, OH.

In 1965 Sally and Aaron moved to Cleveland, OH on a relocation program and she has lived there ever since. Although she has been back several times visiting family in Ponca City, OK. They divorced in 1975 and she has raised her eleven children and 16 of her grandchildren. She had a total of 35 Grandchildren and many Great Grandchildren, and Great-Great Grandchildren. She is survived by one brother; Andrew Overland of Oklahoma City and one sister; Thomasine Martin of Tonkawa OK. Although she had cousins that she considered sisters to her, she also had many nephews and nieces.

She was proceeded in death by her parents William and Helen Overland; her sisters Anna Mae Cortez and Susan Cole; her brothers William T. Overland, Louis Don Overland, Tennyson J. Overland and Odie S. Overland.

Sally grew up as a member of the Ponca Indian United Methodist Church and became a member of the West Side Alliance Church for many years in Cleveland, OH. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the Casinos, Quilting and fringing shawls.

Prayer services will be conducted Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Christian Life fellowship Hall in Tonkawa, OK and brief service on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow in the Ponca Indian Cemetery under the direction of the Grace Memorial Chapel, with the Pastor Jim White , officiating.
