October 22, 1949 ~ November 20, 2020

Simon Cornelius Eagle ended his journey in this world on Friday, November 20, 2020, at his home in Ponca City. His journey began on October 22, 1949 in Pawnee, Oklahoma with his parents Herbert and Esther (Hardman) Eagle.

Simon grew up in the Ponca City area with his seven siblings. After graduating high school, Simon continued his education with a few college courses. At the age of 20 he proudly joined the United States Navy to serve his country.

Simon was proud to be a member of the Ponca Nation, decedent of Horsechief Eagle. He was a traditionalist and historian for the native culture. He was a wise storyteller, passing information down to the next generation by sharing with his nieces and nephews. When he wasn’t telling stories, he could be found writing stories. Simon had a truly green thumb. He had a knack for getting anything to grow. No matter what it was; plant, tree, flowers, if Simon stuck it in the ground you knew it would grow.

Simon will be remembered for his kind giving nature. He would lend a helping hand to those in need, no questions asked. Simon also found joy in cooking and providing meals for his extended family. They could count on him to bring the meal for the holiday gatherings. He didn’t dwell on the bad or let things get him down. He was strong and independent, being in a wheelchair didn’t stop him from doing the things that needed done. He found ways to mow his grass, plant and tend his garden, take care of his chickens as well as spoil his dog, Jesse.

Simon has left many to cherish his memory, siblings, Elaine Primeaux, Marcellus Eagle, Melinda Smith and Lance Eagle, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Esther, siblings, Elliott Eagle, Adrianna Eagle and Lee Eagle.

Friends and family will be able to pay their respects at Grace Memorial Chapel from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. The funeral procession will depart from Grace Memorial Chapel at 1;30pm to take Simon to his place of rest in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery. The graveside service will begin at 2pm Tuesday, November 24, 2020.

Pallbearers include Curtis Primeaux, Elliott Eagle, Robert Primeaux, Mark Roy, Alex LeCllair and Marcelles Eagle. Honorary bearers are Sonny Williams and Gary C’Hair.

Services are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Messages may be left online at www.gracememorialchapel.net.
