Sandra Kay Whiting, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Friday, September 5, 2014 at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was 75 year of age.

Sandra was born May 8, 1939 in Ponca City, the only child born to Arless Parker and Mildred Irene Johnson Parker. She was a 1957 graduate of Ponca City High School and attended one year at Phillips University in Enid. She had been married to Richard Cline Whiting. Sandra was a secretary, an Avon distributor for a few years and had worked in the movie rental department at Food Pyramid for a time.

Sandra was a member of the First Lutheran Church where she had kept the nursery for several years. She also had taken care of many foster children throughout her years. She was a member of the Hounds of the Heartland, an adoption organization for Greyhounds where she help place 32 of these animals into good homes. She also had two Greyhounds of her own, Kianne and Yasman who were pet therapy dogs. Sandra would take these dogs to visit several Ponca City nursing homes as therapy for the patients. Her enjoyments included walking her dogs, reading, and traveling that included several trips to Disney World, a Disney cruise, and trips to Bella Vista, Arkansas and Roaring River, Missouri.

She is survived by her daughter, Shelley Dobson of Edmond, Oklahoma one cousin, Loretta McCoy of Purcell, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Terry Whiting in 1981.

A graveside committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Pastor Jeremy May of First Lutheran Church presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
