November 4, 1954 ~ July 18, 2021

Janice Gayle Steates passed away early Sunday morning, July 18, 2021, in Ponca City, OK at the age of 66. Janice was born to Robert Dallas and Dixie Lou (Reynolds) Walters in Oklahoma City, OK on November 4, 1954.

She was a lifelong Ponca City resident, graduating from Ponca City High School in ’73. In 1981, Janice married Charles Steates. Together they had three children, Jessica, Kaila, and Trey. Janice greatly enjoyed being a mother, and when she became a grandmother, nothing made her prouder.

She was a stay-at-home mother and a talented home maker. Her children and grandbabies were her world and she enjoyed spoiling each of them in her own way. She often baked goodies and cookies for when they arrived home from the school day. Holidays were made special by her loving touches. She would decorate and bake seasonal items to enrich the memories they all made together.

Janice will fondly be remembered for her loving and caring nature. She willingly gave her time and had an uncanny ability to tell stories. She would give her undivided attention to her friends and family making everyone feel special. Although she was a little on the ornery side, set in her way of doing things, and could have a stubborn streak, she had everyone’s back, and they all knew she was there for them.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jessica Steates and her husband Thomas Melton, Kaila Guenther and her husband Matt, grandchildren, Dallas Guenther, Breeley Nichols, Kayden Guenther, Michael Guenther, Emily Guenther, and Warren Guenther, sisters, Karen Patten, Debra Freese and her husband Marion, and Ruth Lampe and her husband Cliff, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dixie Walters, son, Trey Walters, sister, Sheri O’Leary, brother-in-law, Tom Patten, niece, Meagan Lampe, and nephews, Riley O’Leary and Shane Patten.

A time for visitation is scheduled from 9am to 7pm on Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at Grace Memorial Chapel. A Service will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Hope Chapel at IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City, OK at 10am. Graveside Service for family to follow immediately after.

Messages may be left for the family on her online register at www.gracememorialchapel.net. Services are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
