Virginia “Jean” Shook, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Thursday evening, December 4, 2008 at her home. She was 83.

Virginia was born September 12, 1925 in rural Ponca City, the daughter of Fred Hunt and Laura Catherine (Pruett) Hunt. She attended the rural McCord and Peters School.
She was married to Leo Dale Shook on March 18, 1941 at Ponca City. She was a member of the First Church of God and her enjoyments included playing bingo, dancing in earlier years, being outside and being in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren. She was also an avid Oklahoma University football fan.

She is survived by two sons, Leo Gene Shook of Ponca City and Jim Shook of Grand Prairie, Texas; two daughters, Vickie Main, Grand Prairie, Texas and Fontella McAdams of Ponca City; two brothers, Dinty Hunt of Ponca City and Freddie Hunt of Gold Beach, Oregon; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Joe Hunt; one infant brother; one sister, Maxine Barton; one infant sister; two grandsons, Keith Shook and Dirk Ray Main, and one great granddaughter, Tawsha Hurst.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2008 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery Hope Chapel with Joe Tompkins presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. The family has requested that the dress for the service be causal and appropriate for the weather.

Honorary casket bearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren.
