James Monroe Shields, 78, died Tuesday afternoon, November 11, 1952, at his home, 720 S. 13th. He became seriously ill Monday night.

Born July 22, 1874, at Waldron, Missouri, he received his education in Kansas near Independence and later made his home at Lenopah, Kansas. He farmed for several years at Tyro, Kansas.

Shields came to the Ponca City area when he was 25. In 1917 he began work for the old Marland Oil Company as a welder. He took up farming 14 years ago when he was forced to retire due to ill health.

Survivors are one son, Clyde Shields, route 3, Ponca City; one sister, Mrs. H. H. Boyer, Dallas; nine grandchildren and eight great – grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter and a son.

Funeral services are scheduled Friday afternoon at the Memorial Chapel of the Miles Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Sears, pastor of the Nazarene Church, will officiate at the 2 o'clock service. Burial will be in the I00F Cemetery.
