John H. Shaffer Dies in Oregon; Rites Here
John Henry Shaffer, 85, a longtime resident of Ponca City, died about 9 o'clock Wednesday evening at Roseburg, Ore., Ponca City friends have learned. His body, accompanied by his daughter, Mrs. Myrtie Hudkins of Portland, will arrive here at 6:50 o'clock Monday evening.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed, the Downey Funeral Home officials said Saturday afternoon.
Shaffer came to Ponca City in 1902 and made his home here until two or three years ago when he went west to join his daughters. He is survived by a son, Metzer Shaffer of Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Bess Clinger of Roseburg and Mrs. Myrtie Hudkins of Portland; a brother, Sam Shaffer of this city, and a sister, Mrs. Andora Broush of Chiare, Ohio.

Shaffer Funeral To Be Held Wednesday
Funeral Rites for John H. Shaffer, 85-year old long time resident of Ponca City whose death occurred Wednesday in Roseburg, Ore., will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Christian Church with the Rev. O.L. Shelton officiating. Burial is to be in the IOOF Cemetery under the direction of the Downey Funeral Home.
Shaffer came to Ponca City in 1902 and made his home here until a few years ago when he moved to the western coast to be with his daughters, Mrs. Bess Clinger of Roseburg and Mrs. Myrtia Hudkins of Portland.
Scores of friends were present Wednesday morning for funeral services held for Mr. Shaffer at the Christian Church. Out-of-town relatives who are here for the services include Mrs. Hudkins, who accompanied the body to Ponca City, the deceased man's son, Metzer Shaffer of Colorado, and two nieces, Misses Genevieve Shaffer and Miss Roma Shaffer, and a nephew, Jack Shaffer of Oklahoma City.
