Marilyn Kay Payne, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009 at her home. She was 63.

Marilyn was born January 4, 1946 in Ponca City, the daughter of Wesley Burright and Rosamond Summers Burright. She received her early education in the Ponca City Schools. She was married to Jim Payne on October 30, 1962 in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The couple have since made their home in Ponca City. Marilyn was formerly employed for 10 years as the merchandising manager at the Ponca City K-Mart. She was blessed with the wonderful gift to make beautiful crochet pieces and also was involved in ceramic crafts. She was of the Baptist faith and her family was her life. She tirelessly served her family and gave love to them unconditionally. She always looked forward to family gatherings. There will be a gigantic void in the familys lives at her passing.

She is survived by her husband, Jim, of the home; three sons, Jim Payne Jr. and wife, Karrie, Ponca City, Mark Payne, Dallas, Texas, and Darrel Payne and Leisa Parent, Ponca City; one daughter, Sherri Bosworth and husband, David, Ponca City; one brother, Terry Burright and one sister, Beverly Lisiewski, both of Clarksville, Tennessee; 10 grandchildren, Jeremiah, Shelia, Bryndon Payne, Micah, Katie, Leah, Josiah Bosworth, Shandi, Kali and Jessi Parent; 2 great grandchildren, Landrie Payne and Neveah Parent; numerous other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Pastor John Waterloo of the Central Baptist Church presiding. Interment will be in the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Jimmy “Jim” Allen Payne Sr. Was born November 9, 1942 in Ponca City, Ok to Ervin and Henrietta “Pete” Barton Payne. He grew up and attended schools in the Ponca City and surrounding rural areas.

Jim married Marilyn Kay Burright on October 30, 1962 and they remained in Ponca City to raise a family.

Jim was a hard worker and did all he could to provide for his family so his wife could remain a homemaker. He worked numerous years at Axle Wheel Aligning Company as a mechanic while simultaneously keeping a side job of repairing cars and air conditioning units on his own time after his regular day of work. Despite only having a 5th grade education, he went on to build and manage his own business, Payne Tire and Salvage. His endeavor was extremely successful. He loved his work and continued more than 15 years until a massive stroke pushed him into early retirement.

Some of Jim’s favorites included hunting and fishing, old cars and watching westerns on TV. He was especially fond of ones starring Clint Eastwood. If you went to visit him, you could be sure a western was playing. He also enjoyed many weekend trips to Tulsa with Marilyn to go to flea markets and Red Lobster.

Survivors include three sons, Jim Payne Jr. and wife Karrie of Ponca City, Darrel Payne and wife Leisa of Ponca City, Mark Payne of Dallas, TX and one daughter, Sherri Bosworth and husband David also of Ponca City. He had 10 grandchildren. Jeremiah and Bryndon Payne, Shelia Stransky, Micah, Katelyn and Josiah Bosworth, Leah Erickson, Shandi and Kali Parent and Jessi Colston. Jim also had 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Larry, Max and Dale Payne and a sister, Mary Owens. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marilyn, an infant sister, Glenna Maxine and brother Ervin”Sonny” Payne.

Jim was a member of Bible Baptist Church and would like any memorial contribution considerations made to the church at 333 S. Washington, Ponca City, OK 74601.

A Graveside Service will be held in Jim’s honor on Monday, November 25th, at 1pm at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements are under the guidance of Grace Memorial Chapel.
