November 5, 1926 - June 20, 2020

Margaret Ruth Nelsen, 93, of Ponca City, left this earth on June 20, 2020. A private, family graveside ceremony will take place at Odd Fellows Cemetery, with Pastor Ned Moerbe officiating. Public viewing will be from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, June 25, 2020, at Trout Funeral Home. The graveside ceremony will be broadcast live. The broadcast can be accessed by visiting www.troutfuneralhome.com between 1:45 PM and 2:00 PM on Friday and selecting the LIVESTREAM link in the upper right hand of the homepage. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a later date.

Margaret was born on November 5, 1926, in Lorain, Ohio, to Lawrence B. and Margaret A. (Magyar) Grayson. As a child, Margaret lived in an orphanage during the Great Depression, while her parents traveled for work. She graduated high school and attended NOC in Tonkawa. She married Howard Nelsen on July 8, 1951.

She worked as a receptionist for her husband, Dr. Howard Nelsen, at HK Nelsen Chiropractic and also worked at Jackson's Jewelry. She later became a real estate agent in Blackwell.

During the 60's, Margaret was a Campfire leader and an assistant leader of the Cub Scouts. She was also a member of the Blackwell Garden Club. Margaret enjoyed photography, art and gardening. After retirement, she and her husband lived in Weslaco, TX, for half of the year.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Howard, son, David Nelsen and his wife, Mel, of Ponca City, daughter, Deborah Nelsen of Midwest City, son, Daniel Nelsen and his wife, Hannah, of Stillwater; grandchildren, Kevin Nelsen, Nick Nelsen, Tim Nelsen, sister Beatrice Grayson of Dallas, TX, and brother, Steve Grayson of Cincinnati, OH.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Dr. Howard Kirk Nelsen,94, of Ponca City, left this earth on September 25, 2020. A private, family graveside ceremony will take place at Odd Fellows Cemetery, with Pastor Ned Moerbe officiating. Howard was born on the kitchen table in Ponca City, on May 14, 1926, to Hans and Christina (Kirk) Nelsen. He graduated from Ponca High School in 1944, then joined the US Army. He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946, being trained as a radio operator at Fort Sill ,OK. After the Army he used his GI Bill to attend Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, MO, in 1950 graduating with a Doctor Of Chiropractor (D.C.) and would serve the next 40 years as a chiropractor at his firm, HK Nelsen Chiropractic in Blackwell. He was also a licensed chiropractor in Kansas, Arkansas and Colorado. Howard also previously worked for a time as a postman.

Howard married Margaret Grayson on July 8, 1951 and they celebrated 68 years and 11 months of marriage together. He and Margaret loved to travel and after retiring, lived in Weslaco, TX in the winters for several years.

Howard served as past PTA President in the 60's. He was secretary/treasurer of the Jaycees, Drug Awareness Chairman of the Kiwanis Club. He received perfect attendance from the Kiwanis, having never missed a meeting in 27 years.. He also served as president of the Civic Music Association, was a member of the Barbershop Chorus for over 20 years; as well as the Barbershop Chorus in McAllen, TX. He served as secretary of NW District of Oklahoma Chiropractic Association. Howard was also a charter member of the American Chiropractic Association. Howard was a long time member and elder at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blackwell and also First Lutheran church, Ponca City . He served as treasure and financial secretary. Howard enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes for over 30 years and was a charter member of local Good Ole Okie Flying Society, also known as "GOOF's".

He is survived by his children; David Nelsen and his wife, Mel, of Ponca City, Deborah Nelsen, of Midwest City, OK, Daniel Nelsen and his wife, Hannah, of Stillwater; grandchildren, Kevin Nelsen, Nick Nelsen, Tim Nelsen and brother, Dean Nelsen, of Wichita, KS.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents and sister, Grace Jackson.
