Hope Esther Case Mitchell, 95, of Ponca City, OK, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Ponca City Medical Center. She was born on May 10, 1919 in Rural Ponca City to John P. and Effie (Paul) Case.

She attended Lincoln Grade School and High School in Ponca City. During her teen years, she met Virgil Lee Mitchell and they were married in 1937. Virgil was a farmer and Esther served the family as a homemaker. They raised three sons; Donald Lee, William Everett and Jerry Ray Mitchell. They lived in various locations in Kay County, eventually settling in Ponca City where Virgil worked for the City for 25 years. After retirement, they enjoyed traveling and fishing. Virgil passed away in 1991. She was a member of the Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church and the UM Women’s group.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a baby sister- Ruth Case, three brother; Johnny Case, Robert Case and Everett Case. One son-Jerry Mitchell and a daughter-in-law Cheryl Mitchell.

Esther is survived by 2 sons; Donald Mitchell of Skiatook, OK, William (Bill) Mitchell and his wife Mary Ann of Ponca City, daughter-in-law-Sylvia Mitchell of Newkirk. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015 in the Hope Chapel of I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Ponca City with the Rev. Doyle Sharp of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church of Ponca City officiating. Due to her wishes, there will be a closed casket service.

Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Esther’s guestbook may be signed by coming by the funeral home on Monday or Tuesday from 8 am till 5 p.m.
