Guy Luther LeMonnier, age 76, of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away December 21, 2020 at his home.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, December 29th at First Baptist Church with Gayle Young officiating. There will be a live stream of the service for those wishing to watch but not able to attend at FBCponca.org/LIVE at 2:00 pm. Guy will be laid to rest at Odd Fellows Cemetery prior to the service. Guy was born September 23rd, 1944 in Ada Oklahoma, to Guy and Ima Jeane LeMonnier. Guy was a long time Ponca City resident that graduated with the PoHi Class of 1962.
On July 3, 1964, Guy married Cheryl Tomblin of Ponca City. Together they had two daughters, Kerri and Debbie. They were the highlight of his life. Guy Jr worked with his dad at LeMonnier Construction for many years building homes in entire subdivisions like Northgate and Brentwood Addition and numerous custom homes throughout Ponca City before he took over the business. Guy then transitioned to commercial constructions as the housing market declined and went on to build numerous buildings like El Chico, Crown & Rose Pub, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Northern Oklahoma Regional Pediatric Center, Outpatient Surgery Center and numerous additions to existing buildings that he was extremely proud of like the Ponca City Library Addition and the Grace Episcopal Church Addition and many more in and around the Ponca City area. Over the years Guy was fortunate to have a long time loyal foreman and great employees, many of them were friends who were dedicated in their work for him and they were very much appreciated.
Guy was a hard worker but he also liked to play hard (to put it mildly). Building was just a sideline to help support his real love, hunting and fishing. Guy got many of his trophies in Northern Oklahoma but eventually, he ventured out to Colorado and to Wyoming which became his home away from home in the fall as he helped guide others in their quest for Elk. Guy’s last hunting frontier was Africa where a friend made sure he had a good hunt. Guy’s fun didn’t stop there. He and Cheryl took several trips together on their motorcycle and with friends. Eventually he had to have a Harley so he could travel with his “Harley” friends. I guess you could say, he didn’t know the word NO.
The biggest joy of his life was to teach his grandsons Cole and Lane to love hunting and fishing as much as he did. It is now a big part of their lives as well. Grandpa got to learn some new skills from his Washington grandsons Cameron and Brandon, they taught him to catch crab, dig for clams, shuck oysters as well as to fish for salmon. There was always something new for him to learn to love.
Guy is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl, of the home. His two daughters, Kerri (Jamie) Nichols of Ponca City, OK. and Debbie (Steve) Cady of Des Moines, WA. He is also survived by his four grandsons, Cole Nichols of Edmond, OK. Lane Nichols of Dallas, TX, and Cameron and Brandon Cady of Des Moines, WA.Also survived by his aunt and uncle-Gene and Velma LeMonnierof Pawnee, OK, cousin Rick (Teresa) LeMonnierof Ponca City, OK , nieceDenise (Chris) Adams, Zoe & Sierra of Salt Lake City, Utah and his nephew’s son Josh Kulczycki of Ponca City, OK.
Guy was blessed with a long time caregiver, Lisa and also some of her family members. The special care enabled us to keep Guy in the home. A special thanks to all of them, as well his other caregivers and Hospice over the last year. He was well taken care of. Cheryl is also blessed with her two sisters and their husbands supporting and helping her through these years. Guy was preceded in death by his parents Guy and ImaJeane LeMonnier, sister Sandra LeMonnier Kulczycki, nephew, Scott Kulczycki and his grandparents, Clive and Letha Robertson and F. O. and Ava LeMonnier.
