Dorothy Fern (Christy) JOHNSTONE

Ponca City I O O F Cemetery

Dorothy "Dottie" Johnstone, beloved Mom, Grandma, G.G., sister, and friend, passed peacefully from this earth on July 15, 2022, surrounded by love.

Dottie was the second child born to Jack G. and Rachel Spaulding Christy on May 31st, 1942 in Hailey, ID. Dottie grew up and spent most of her life in Ponca City, OK, attending school and graduating from Ponca City High School in 1960. In December 1961, Dottie became a mother for the first time to Mark Alan, beginning one of the most important jobs of her life. Two and a half years later came a daughter, Kimberly Kae. As a young mother in the early 1970s, she began a career at Sullivan's Trucking, where she was employed for over 40 years. The Sullivan family was always quick to treat her as one of their own and Dottie often considered them as a part her own family. On August 2, 1980, Dottie married the love of her life, Danny Johnstone, and became stepmother to his children, Brett and Pamela. They were married and shared many memories together until Danny's passing in May of 2021.

After her retirement, Dottie's days were spent doting on and helping to care for her great-grandchildren. She also loved spending time with all of her family and hosting or going to gatherings of any type. During each holiday her home would be filled with family, friends, and delicious food. Every Wednesday until shortly after she fell ill, she could be found at the bowling alley with some of her dearest friends, her sorority sisters. The girls enjoyed monthly socials, community activities, traveling, simply enjoying each other's company, and helping each other in times of celebration, as well as need.

Dottie is survived by her sisters, Ann and husband Charles Ryan, and Jackie Shepard, children, Mark Woolley, Kim McGilvrey, Brett and his wife Kathy Johnstone, and Pamela VanCuren, grandchildren, Brandon and his wife Bethany Woolley, Nick Smith, Stan Van Curen, Kyle Johnstone, and Misti and her husband Charlie Yundt, Great-grandchildren, Ava, Issac, Zaxton, Joslin, Ruthie, Jacob, Levi, and Lyndi, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, husband, Danny Johnstone, and Granddaughter, Stacia Barnett.

A memorial service will be held in Dottie's honor at 11am on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at Albright United Methodist Church, at 128 S. Palm St, Ponca City with Pastor Francis Bartley presiding. Dottie will be laid to rest at a later date in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Traditions Hospice or Legacy Village of Stillwater.
