Phyllis was born on September 4, 1939 in Frederick, OK to Jess Clyde Nix and Lela May Timms Nix, the 6th of 7 children. Early in life, her family moved to Enid where Phyllis attended school through high school there. On July 14, 1987, Phyllis married the man of her dreams, Jack Higgins at their home "The Ponderosa" in the Osage. They joyfully shared their lives until his passing in 2004. Through the years, Phyllis was always passionate about caring for her family. Especially when they made the effort to come to her house. Holiday dinners were her favorite, and she would go all out putting together a spectacular meal. She stayed in touch with her daughters daily, and if she did go out and about with them, she enjoyed sitting back quietly "people watching." The home where Phyllis and Jack moved to in Ponca City backed up to a nice green space. Many days were spent sitting and watching the birds, deer, and other wildlife passing through.

Survivors include her cherished daughters: Debbie Teasley and husband Greg of Ponca City, Carla Webb and husband Steve of Ponca City and Billie Wilcher and husband John of Kaw City, dear brother Jimmy Nix and wife Gloria of Oklahoma City, adored grandchildren: Jessica Belknap and husband Randy of San Diego, CA, Garrett Teasley of Ponca City, Jordan Teasley of Ponca City, and Maggie Finsterwald and husband Brandon of Stillwater, Ok; treasured great grandchildren: Cody Belknap, Cameron Belknap both of San Diego and Blakely Irons, of Ponca City as well as many nieces and nephews The caregivers that provided Phyllis a nice quality of life and valuable friendship these last months were Debbie Fleharty, Kim Meadows, Sue Ann Burch, and Anna Bryer.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Jack, parents and siblings Louise Carter, Jess Nix, Cecil Nix, Mary Ellen Cox, and Patricia Robertson.
