Carolyn Raye Hiatt, resident of Ponca City, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 71 years of age.

Carolyn was born June 3, 1940 in Ponca City, the daughter of W.H. Hallmark and Martha Mae Covill Hallmark. She was a 1958 graduate of Ponca City High School. She then earned her associate degree from Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa and was a 1962 graduate of the then Northwestern Oklahoma State Teachers College in Alva. She earned her BSN from Tulsa University in 1985.

She was married to Elbert C. Butch Hiatt on May 25, 1962 in Ponca City. The couple was one day away of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple had lived at various other locations that included Bixby, Oklahoma from 19731986, Stillwater, Oklahoma from 19862006, moving back to Ponca City in 2006.

Carolyn was a longtime nurse and had been employed with Gatesway in Broken Arrow and was last employed as a shift manager with the Perry, Oklahoma Hospital. She had served as a volunteer with the Red Cross and Hospice. She was a member of the Longwood Baptist Church and her enjoyments included a passion for genealogy, Special Olympics, nursing, bowling, fishing and playing bridge. She was also musically talented and could play numerous stringed instruments.

She is survived by her husband Butch, of the home one daughter, Kelly Ridgway and husband Mike, of Ponca City one son, Eric Hiatt and wife Marla of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania East Africa her twin sister, Wendelyn Milligan of Kaw City, sisters Sharon Long and husband John of Washington State and Donna Sue Sisney and husband Sonny, of Morrison, Oklahoma one brother, Keith Hallmark and wife Sharon, of Milwaukee, Oregon four grandchildren, Emmitt Hiatt, Chris Ridgway, Joshua Ridgway and Arizona Ridgway numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents sisterinlaw Janet Hallmark and one infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Longwood Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Ridgway presiding, assisted by Eric Hiatt. Interment will follow in the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
