Elard Lee Haden Jr. , age 91 of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at the Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. , Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Ponca City IOOF Cemetery under the direction of the Grace Memorial Chapel. Visitation hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2016 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Grace Memorial Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.gracememorialchapel.net.

The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church or the American Heart Association and contributions may be left at the Grace Memorial Chapel.

Elard was born December 30, 1924 in Helena, Arkansas to Elard Lee and Emma Reno (Sanford) Haden. He grew up in Helena and graduated from the West Helena High School in 1942. Elard then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in June of 1947 from Hendrix College. Elard also graduated from the Louisiana State University with a Master's of Science Degree on August 11, 1950.

Elard served in the United States Marines until in honorable discharge as a Second Lieutenant. On July 7, 1957 Elard married Dorothy Dee Cox to this union one son Elard Lee Haden III was born. The couple later divorced. Elard worked for Gulf Oil in Houston, Texas and then for Conoco Inc for almost 28 years retiring in 1985.

On January 25, 1985 Elard married Maralyn Eva Roland and she survives of the home. Elard was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 40 years and taught religious courses there. He was one of the original members of the Ponca Playhouse, and he loved to Travel, Snow Ski and do woodworking projects.

Survivors include his wife Maralyn of the home; one son Elard Lee Haden III of Monroe, LA; three step sons Douglas W. Roland of Dallas, Texas, Darrel G. Roland of Wichita, Kansas and Curtis L. Roland of Wichita, Kansas; four step grandchildren; two nieces Mary Beth Yates and Rebecca Lane and one nephew Oscar T. Yates. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Mary Elizabeth Haden.
