Scott Williams Garrett, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at his home. He was 85 years of age.

Scott was born November 5, 1926 in Ponca City, the son of Herbert Amos Garrett and Flora L. Williams Garrett. He attended the Ponca City Schools. He served his country in the United States Navy and was assigned to the USS Prince William Escort Carrier. After the war Scott began employment with Cities Service of Ponca City and then with Conoco until his retirement in 1986. He was married to Alka Nathalie Francis on March 12, 1949 in Gainesville, Texas. He was a longtime member of Sunset Baptist Church. His enjoyments included fishing, hunting, camping and tinkering in his garage. He was a sincere Christian as his faith was a very important part of his life.

Scott is survived by his two children, Wade Garrett of Hutchinson, Kansas and Linda Garrett of Ponca City two grandchildren, Kimberly Binford and Jennifer Madden three great grandchildren, Ty Binford, Taylor Binford and Jett Madden. He was preceded in death by his parents his wife, Alka on September 12, 2001 two brothers, Sherman Garrett and Sterlin Garrett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 at Sunset Baptist Church with Pastor Matt Brown presiding. Interment will follow in the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Alka Nathalie "Bunchy" Garrett, after a lengthy illness, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 12, 2001. Born on April 7, 1929, in Milburn to John Lacy and Manie Perkins Francis, she was 72. She received her education in Milburn. Bunchy married Scott Williams Garrett on March 12, 1949 in Gainesville, Texas. They celebrated their 52nd anniversary this year. It was apparent to everyone who knew them that they were devoted to each other.

They have two children who loved her deeply. Wade Garrett of Hutchinson, Kan., and Linda Garrett of Ponca City.

Bunchy and Scott liked to go to Colorado and camp until her health started to get bad. She also liked to crochet and work crossword puzzles.

She was a member of Sunset Baptist Church. Bunchy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. She leaves behind her husband, Scott; her two children, Wade Garrett and Linda Garrett; two granddaughters, Kimberly Michelle Binford and Jennifer Brooke Garrett; two sisters, Johnnie Spencer and Toni Neighbors; and a brother, J.S. Francis.

The service will be held at Sunset Baptist Church in Ponca City on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ron Ledbetter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery under direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. The casket will be closed at all times.

Casket bearers will be George Ivy, Tom Skaggs, Clarence Smith, Marty Vineyard, Bill White and Orville Wilks.
