Mary L. Faken, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed on Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 82 years of age.

Mary was born April 15, 1927 in rural Noble County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Henry Edward Faken and Anna Marie Bishop Faken. She moved with her family at the age of 2 years to Ponca City. She was a 1945 graduate of Ponca City High School. After her graduation from high school she was employed with the Jones Grocery Store for 2 years before going to work in the Accounting Department of Conoco. She was employed with Conoco from 1947 until her retirement on May 1, 1985. Mary had attended Albright United Methodist Church since 1935. She also was a charter member of the Desk and Derrick Ladies Organization. Marys enjoyments included traveling and had traveled extensively throughout Europe, Canada and the Caribbean. She also enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles and her church work. Mary was very active throughout her years in planning and conducting her high school class reunions.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Faken and wife, Joan, of Ponca City; two nieces, Kim Cooke and Robin Grossenbacher and her husband, Gary; one great niece, Alex Cooke and two great nephews, Sam Cooke and Cameron Grossenbacher; other extended family and friends that Mary enjoyed very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A graveside committal service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2009 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Ponca City, followed by a 10:30 memorial service at Albright United Methodist Church, 128 South Palm. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Honorary casket bearers are John Lansdown, Bob Anthony and Russ Allen. Memorial contributions may be made to the Albright United Methodist Church, 128 South Palm, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
