Bill D. Carmichael, age 83, long time resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Ponca City. A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:30am Friday, September 9, 2016 at the First United Methodist in Ponca City with Reverend Mike Smith officiating. He will be laid to rest at Odd Fellows Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Bill was born on July 24, 1933 to Sheridan Carmichael and Mabel Getter Carmichael in Ponca City. Bill married Charlene K. Hewitt on April 10, 1954 in Ponca City. The Kay County range was where Bill put his hand to work, farming and raising cattle. The agricultural life defined much of his career. Starting in High School, Bill received a National achievement award from 4-H. Bill attended Oklahoma A&M, earning a B.S. in Animal Science. He was a member of the meat judging team, and was on the national winning livestock judging team. He continued to serve the livestock industry as a member of the State and National Beef Boards from 1980-1993. A servant was the true definition of Bill’s character, not only serving in agriculture, he served in any capacity he could. He spent time as a board member for the Pioneer Technology Center, and more recently, working with the second graders at Lincoln Elementary to help them with their math studies. He helped various organizations raise funds by baking and auctioning off “Bill’s Bread”. Above all, Bill loved his family. His most treasured moments were spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Survivors include his beloved wife Charlene of the home, treasured children: Reesa Haggard and husband Owen of Plano, TX, Kelle Vernon and husband Dale of Stillwater, OK, Karen Carmichael of Tulsa, OK and Hewitt Carmichael and wife Beth of Haskell, TX, cherished grandchildren: Hattie Haggard of Chicago, IL, Katie Jacques of Berlin, Germany, Charley Jacques of Stillwater, OK, Kelyn Jacques Disel and husband Taylor of Stillwater, Gideon Carmichael of Haskell, TX, Claire Carmichael of Abilene, TX, Lucy Carmichael of Lubbock, TX, Wyatt Carmichael of Haskell, TX, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother E.S. “Bud” Carmichael, sister Geneva Williams and his parents.
