Darrell Gene Boxley, 77, beloved father and grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on March 5, 2021. He entered this world on December 9, 1943 in Kaw City, OK, born to Emmett and Elizabeth Boxley.

Darrell was a devoted husband to his wife Lucille, or as she was more affectionately known, "Twiggy". They were married July 6th, 1973 in Ponca City, OK. They enjoyed 30 years together before she was called home in 2003. He was always bragging to his friends about his son, and always helped his son see the next "mile marker" in life and not settle for what he had already accomplished. Darrell deeply loved all of his "cowboys"; all three George's as well as Wyatt.

He was an over the road truck driver for most of his life and enjoyed pastimes such as fishing and classic car shows. Darrell was an avid OU football fan and would never miss a game.

Darrell served in the Army from 1966 to 1968. He was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam where he met his good buddy Leroy (Joe) Chavez of Denver, CO and many others. He was awarded the Purple Heart as well many others for his selfless service to our country. In September of 1968, he was also awarded the Key to the City of Miami, Florida. Darrell enjoyed volunteering by placing American flags in the cemetery on Veteran's Day and Memorial Day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alice Lucille Davis Boxley, brother William (Bill) Boxley, and Sister-in-law Sandra Grummons.

He is survived by his son Travis Boxley, daughter-in-law Heather, grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Abigail, Wyatt and Samantha, his sister, Nellie Ann McClead of Tucson, AZ, Brother-in-law, Don Grummons, of Mora, MN, Sisters-in-law Mary Helen Boxley of Cortez, CO, and Judy Allen of Champaign, IL, Nieces: Brenda Barker of Denver, CO, Beth Ann Chorey, of Las Cruces, NM, Jenny Bugday of Champaign, IL, Audra Martin, of Champaign, IL, Nephews, Rick Boxley of Cortez, CO, Steve McClead, of Welcome, MD, and several great nieces and nephews, and several great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Connect Church 1101 W. Grand, Ponca City, OK with Pastor Mark Busch officiating. He will then be laid to rest beside his wife at Odd Fellows Cemetery. The family has asked in leu of flowers please make memorial contributions to the VFW P.O. Box 1836, Ponca City, OK 74602
