Mass of Christian burial for Adel J. Popplewell, 86, of Ponca City, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ponca City. The Rev. John J. Michalicka will officiate. Burial will be in Newkirk Cemetery . A Vigil service will be 6:30 p.m. today, Nov. 18, at Trout Funeral Home Chapel, Ponca City.

She was born May 3, 1922, in Bison to Joseph and Josephine Harak Shimanek and died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at her home.

She was a graduate of Enid High School and attended Enid Business School. She worked at Polcek Mills.

She married Charles Popplewell Aug. 21, 1943, in Enid. They made their home in San Diego, Calif., where he was stationed during World War II. They moved to Newkirk in the late 1940s where she was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, and to Ponca City in 1976 where she became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She served as Eucharistic Minister for shut-ins and volunteered at St. Mary’s School as a literacy coach.

Surviving are six children, Joe Popplewell of Hennessey, Annette Popplewell of Centennial, Colo., Suzan Engelking of Newkirk , Connie Pinkston of Conroe, Texas, Judy Masters of Bird Island, and Bill Popplewell of Ponca City; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, two infant sons, one daughter, one brother, one sister and two grandchildren.
