June 2, 1935 - January 25, 2022

Lavone (Lockwood) Vap, 86, lifelong resident of Newkirk, passed away on January 25, 2022 at Via Christi in Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Lavone was born on June 2, 1935 to Newton and Helen (Schneider) Lockwood in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She attended Newkirk schools and graduated with the Class of 1953. She married Anthony (Tony) Vap on June 13, 1953 and they raised their four children in rural Newkirk. Lavone worked several places during her lifetime where she enjoyed making many new friends; however, being a homemaker and working along side her husband, Tony, on the family farm was her most rewarding job. Lavone and Tony enjoyed taking trips with friends when time away from the farm allowed.

Lavone was a member of St. Francis Church in Newkirk where she was a member of the Altar Society. In her younger years, she enjoyed helping with the church weddings and made beautiful table coverings to be enjoyed by all. She was a stellar seamstress. She made wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses for both of her daughter's weddings. All of her grandchildren were blessed with her handmade blankets.

Lavone is survived by her four children; daughter Vicki Kirchoff and husband Kent, daughter Cathy Koenke and husband Jeff, son Mike Vap and wife DaMetra, and son Gary Vap and wife Julie. She is further survived by her 13 grandchildren Spencer Cline, Justin Kirchoff, Staci Kirchoff, Brian Koenke, Darcy Wilson, Paul Koenke, Benjamin Vap, Emily Evanoff, Anthony Vap, Matthew Vap, Jacob Vap, Caleb Vap, and Daniel Vap and 24 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by one sister, Vivian Duplissey of Newkirk and one sister in law, Charlene Vap of Ponca City. She is preceded in death by her husband Tony in 2002, and one grandson, Bradley Colson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, Ponca City, Oklahoma. A rosary service will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Trout Funeral Home chapel. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at the Newkirk Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601.
