June 30, 1930 - March 18, 2019 Donald D. Newland of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, March 18th, 2019, at Via Christi Village in Ponca City, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years.

Donald D. “Don” Newland was born on June 30, 1930, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Jim H. Newland and Oca L. (Searl) Newland. Don spent the first twelve years of his life in Numa, before moving to the family farm, South-East of Deer Creek, Oklahoma, where he attended school until his graduation in 1948. He married Laveta Valentine in 1951, at which time they moved across the road to their homestead. Over the course of his working years, he owned multiple wheat and cattle farms across Grant County – as well as Newland Paint Contracting. Following his retirement in 2010, they moved to Ponca City.

Don was a member of the Grant County Farm Bureau, Clyde Co-Op Association Board, and the Deer Creek School Board (for which he previously served as board president.) He enjoyed the company of his friends and family – he could often be found hanging out at the Co-Op, and was especially fond of his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; son Dennis Newland and wife Judi of Ponca City; daughter Lesa Hawkins and husband Keith of Wylie, TX; his grandchildren, Aaron Cardwell and wife Carissa of Enid, Tara Crawford and husband Jason of Rowlett, TX, David Newland and wife Jodi of Ponca City, Lecia Gunsalus and husband Doug of Buena Park, CA; his great grandchildren, Jay Cardwell, Braylen Crawford, Kyleigh Kent, Hayden Newland, Peyton Newland, Emercyn Gunsalus, and Gage Gunsalus; a niece, Karen Holmes of Blackwell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Glen Elsenrath; his son, Kenneth Wayne Newland.

Services are scheduled for Friday, March 22, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Nardin United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Davis and Rev. Doug Gunsalus officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin at a later date.

Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Dean Hall, David Newland, Keith Hawkins, Aaron Cardwell, Doug Gunsalus, and Jason Crawford.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his honor with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
