Sept. 3, 1947 - May 13, 2021

Peacefully, with family by her side, Sharon Lea Armstrong passed away on May 13, 2021 at the age of 73.

Sharon was born in Blackwell on Sept 3, 1947, to Manuel and Virginia Ruiz. She attended Nardin elementary school and Blackwell Public Schools, graduating in 1965 from Blackwell High School. She attended Central State University in Edmond, OK, and graduated with a Master's Degree in Education. She taught part time before taking time off to raise her children, Greg and Shawna. Sharon returned to teaching in 1979 for Blackwell Public Schools where she taught Music and English, and retired after 25 years, in 2004.

She enjoyed so many activities including playing slow pitch softball, giving vocal lessons, coaching her daughter’s sports teams, umpiring for youth summer softball, and traveling to every game or event Greg and Shawna took part in, to support and cheer them on. Sharon also had a beautiful voice and enjoyed sharing her God given talent of singing at various venues. But of her many interests and talents, devotion and love for her family was Sharon’s greatest gift. She would do anything in her power to help her family, especially her two children and grandchildren. Sharon was the kind of person that believed in the Golden Rule and led by example, with a strength of character that was amplified in all aspects of her life.

Sharon is survived by her son and his wife, Greg and Christi Armstrong of Yukon, OK, her daughter and her husband, Shawna and Jim Palmieri of Riverside, CA; grandchildren: Coltan and Kyla Armstrong of Jenks, OK, Adeline, Alexis and Angel Fairchild of Yukon, OK, and great-grandson Hagen Farrell of Yukon, OK; brother and sister-in-law, RJ and Pam Ruiz of Nardin, OK; friend and caregiver, Penny Vannatta of Blackwell, OK; nieces and nephews: Travis Ruiz, Tracy Ruiz, Joni Kendrick, Troy Ruiz, Scott Ruiz, Amber O’Bannon, and Sabrina Scott and families.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Virginia Ruiz; brother, Richard Ruiz, and infant sister, Sharlene Ruiz.

Funeral services will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Blackwell, OK on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 1:00 pm, followed by graveside services at the Nardin Cemetery for immediate family only.
