Vernon Floyd Lively of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Friday evening, April 11, 1014, in Integris Bass Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma, at the age of 75 years.
Vernon Floyd Lively was born on February 17, 1939, in Nardin, Oklahoma, to Floyd and Audry (Hergert) Lively. He grew up in the Nardin area and attended Deer Creek Public Schools graduating in 1957. Following his education he began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company and continued working there until the smelter closed. During this time he entered the Oklahoma National Guard serving in the 45th Infantry Division. He married Jean Silke in July of 1961 in Blackwell. In 1970, he began working as a veterinarian assistant at the Tonkawa Veterinarian Clinic and in 1976 worked for the Electron Corporation until his retirement in 1995. He married Fern Odra Dye on June 18, 1988, in Nardin and they made Blackwell their home. He was a member of the Nardin United Methodist Church and the Braman American Legion. He was a proud supporter of Tonkawa and Oklahoma University athletics. He enjoyed gardening, lawn care, country-western dancing, playing various card games and fishing with his family. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great grandchildren's various activities. Vernon had a loving heart and put others needs before his own.
He is survived by his wife, Fern Lively of Blackwell; two daughters, Kristi Dust and husband Eli of Winfield, Kansas, and Kathy Caffey and husband Wayne of Ponca City; two sons, Michael Lively of Oklahoma City, and Al Stout of Bethany, Oklahoma; a sister, Betty Hodges of Medford; nine grandchildren, Alia Dust, Elissa Dust, Dylan Dust, Justin Goodson, Jason Kubik, Tessa Thornton, Justin Caffey, Stephanie Buller and Stacy Caffey; and seven great grandchildren, Kylie Kubik, Trevor Kubik, Sophie Kubik, Addison Thornton, Jeremy Goodson, Lucas Goodson and Braylon Buller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Jeremy Goodson.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 17th in the Nardin United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Nardin.
Casketbearers will be Wes Hickey, Bob Lively, Leon Lively, Mark Kubik, Maxie Williams, Rex Reese, Jim Reese, Ken Reese and Phil Whetstone. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Raymond Miller, Darrell Reese, Doyle Steffen, Dale McGaha, Bob Reese, Don Kirkpatrick and Tom Prather.
A family visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening, April 16th at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Nardin United Methodist Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74361.
