Nora Mae Simmons, Route Five resident, died Friday, June 28, 1996, at the Ponca City Nursing Home. She was 92. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Longwood Cemetery, east of Ponca City.

Nora Mae (Pringle) Simmons was born on her parents homestead, northeast of Ponca City, Dec. 16, 1903. She was the daughter of Robert G. and Leota B. (Klopp) Pringle and received her early education in the Maple Grove Rural School, and Ponca City High School.

On Oct. 21, 1923, she was married to John H. "Hank" Simmons in rural Kildare, and the couple established their first home in Ponca City. The couple moved back to the homestead of her parents after Mr. Simmons' retirement in 1951. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1983. Mrs. Simmons was a member of the Ponca City First Christian Church. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, quilting, and painting.

Survivors include one son, James L. Simmons of Tulsa; one daughter, Norma Louise Bellmard of Ponca City; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband in November 1984; and her parents. - - - - -

John Henry "Hank" Simmons

Died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was 83.

Born January 8, 1901, in Kay County, he was the son of William F. and Sarah Simmons. He attended Kay County schools.

On Oct. 21, 1923 he and Nora Pringle were married at their present home site [Nora's parents homestead]. Simmons worked for Lewis Rock Quarry for about two years, moving to Ponca City in 1925 when he went to work for Community Filling Station.

They moved to the present home in 1951. Simmons retired from farming in 1979.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Nora; a son James L. Simmons of Tulsa; a daughter, Norma Louise Bellmard of Tulsa; five brothers, William, Lauren and Lester Simmons, all of Ponca City, Carl Simmons of McAlester and Jasper Simmons of Joplin, Mo.; three sisters, Mildred Jones of Bakersfield, Calif., Cleo Bell Shaw of Oklahoma City and Lucritia Rose Hudsen of Missouri; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Grace Memorial Chapel with Dr. Andy Messenger of First Christian Church, Ponca City, officiating. Burial will be in Longwood Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be John Burnett, Carl Roady, Joe Doughty, Jack Huffman, John Dysart and George Smith.
