Laverne (Daniel) Morrison

Laverne (Daniel) Morrison, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2009 surrounded by family. She was 81.

Laverne was born the daughter of Joseph Daniel and Lena (Dewitt) Daniel on March 16, 1927 in Yale, Oklahoma. She attended Diamond Valley Elementary and Junior High School, a one room school house that she walked to everyday. She later graduated from Stillwater High School. Laverne received her college education from Oklahoma A&M University (Oklahoma State University) and graduated in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree from the Business Education Department. While in college, she met Elbie Morrison, the love of her life and after graduation they were married on August 12, 1949. To this union three children were born. She was employed at Ponca City Senior High School for five years as registrar before she became a mother.
Laverne was very involved with her family and grandchildren’s activities. She was a Boy Scout leader, campfire leader, children’s choir leader and an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church while her children were young. Laverne was a constant helper with farming and ranching and always gave continuous support to her late husband, Elbie. She loved spending time with her friends and family and will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Larry Dale Morrison of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Karen Bemo and husband, Russell of Ponca City, Oklahoma and Sharon Eubank and husband, David of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; one brother, Eugene Daniel of Ponca City, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, Cody, Kyle and Jessica Bemo, Audrey, Davey and Katie Eubank.

She is preceded in death by her parents and loving husband, Elbie, March 17, 2002.

Casket bearers for the service will be Cody Bemo, Kyle Bemo, Rusty Bemo, Davey Eubank, David Eubank, and Larry Morrison.

A formal visitation will be held on Monday, January 19th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Carter Hospice Care, 3105 S. Meridian Ave., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73119.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Longwood Cemetery with The Reverend Lisa Crone-Sheldon of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating.
