Norma Jean Kirkendall

A graveside service for Norma Kirkendall, long time Newkirk resident, was held Friday, September 19, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Longwood Cemetery in Ponca City with the Rev. James Hollifield officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral Service.

Norma Jean Kirkendall was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Ponca City to John and Lottie Fike Rouch and died Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, in Ponca City Medical Center at the age of 78. She grew up and received her education in Ponca City.

She married Eugene David Kirkendall on Sept. 6, 1947 in Newkirk. They lived in Haysville, Kan., moving to Merced, Calif. where they lived from 1970 to 1976 when they moved to Belton, Texas. In 1979 they returned to Haysville and then to Newkirk. She was employed with an insurance agency while living in Kansas, and in Texas, she was employed by the Dickie's Clothing Company. She was a member of the Presbyterian faith and enjoyed arts, crafts, reading, fishing and traveling.

Surviving her are her daughter, Judith Anne "Judy" Henry of Temple, Texas; one brother, Jimmy Rouch of Ponca City; one granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.

Preceding her in death was her husband in 1997; one daughter, Vickie Lee Carter; her parents; and one brother, Thomas Rouch.
