William "Bill" Edgar Hawthorn, life-long Ponca City resident, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 in Joplin, Missouri. He was 89 years old. Bill was born on April 26, 1928 in Kildare, Oklahoma to his parents, Henry and Helen (Niday) Hawthorn. He grew up in Ponca City and graduated from Po Hi. Bill (secretly) married Nancy Shelton in May of 1950 and didn't tell anyone they were married for a couple of weeks. They had 5 children together. Nancy died on February 11, 1964. Bill later met and married Sharon Zerger in December of 1986. She preceded him in death on August 12, 2009.

Bill was an avid fisherman enjoying his time at Port Aransas, Lake Ponca and Grand Lake. Family and friends were important to Bill and he enjoyed cooking food for their get-togethers. Like many area residents, he was a devoted OSU fan. During the past four years, Bill was living with his daughter at Grand Lake and purchased a pontoon boat that the family enjoyed taking out on the lake.

Bill will be missed by his 5 children, Toni Baughman of Ponca City, Teresa Reid and husband Steve of Woodward, OK, Becky McGuire and husband Gary of Eucha, OK, Julie Hawthorn of Eucha, OK, and Bill Hawthorn and wife Kelli of Colorado City, TX, sister, Martha Smith of Eucha, OK seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Helen and his two brothers, Raymond and Donald.

Friends and family may come by Trout Funeral Home & Crematory to pay their respects to Bill on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 1:00-8:00 p.m. A family visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral ceremony to remember Bill will be held at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow at Longwood Cemetery.
