Cheryl Denise Bales, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Thursday, July 23, 2015 in Yukon, Oklahoma. She was 42 years of age.

Cheryl was born November 27, 1972 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Ray Bales and Sandra Lee (Briley) Bales. Cheryl was currently a resident of the Billings Fairchild Center in Billings, Oklahoma and former resident of the Ponca City Opportunity Center. While at the Opportunity center she had worked in the screen printing shop and helped with meals on wheels.

Cheryl was of the Christian faith and her enjoyments included singing and dancing, listening to country music, watching tv comedies and scary movies; participating in the Special Olympics, and spending time with her family at reunions and various events.

Cheryl is survived by her father, James Ray Bales of Ponca City; one sister and Cheryl's guardian, Janetta Goodger and husband Clint, of Ponca City; two brothers, Donald Ray Bales of Ponca City and Jared James Bales of McAlester, Oklahoma; five nieces and nephews, Phoebe Bales, Elizabeth Bales, James Bales, Sarah Bales and Gage Goodger; numerous cousins and other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Lee Bales on March 6, 2011; paternal grandparents, James Wesley Bales and Ruth Bales; her maternal grandparents, Clarence Briley Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Briley Pitts; her step-grandfather, Deward Pitts.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Faith Tabernacle Church, 501 South 5th Street, Ponca City, with Pastor Don Stanton presiding. Interment will follow in the Longwood Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers are Clint Goodger, Reece Briley, Shane Briley, Justin Burns, Nathan Owens and Jake Greenwell.
