Roger Dean Abel

Roger Dean Abel, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Thursday, April 11, 2013 in Tulsa. He was 67 years of age. 

Roger was born March 26, 1946 in Okemah, Oklahoma, the son of Clifford Abel and Evelyn (Crews) Abel. He moved with his family to Ponca City where he started the third grade. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1964. Roger was married to Becky Willison on August 25, 1967 in the First Christian Church of Ponca City. Roger served his country for 28 years as a member of the Army Reserve, retiring in 1996 as a Master Sergeant. He was employed with Conoco for 30 years in the accounting department, retiring in 1999. He then was involved in real estate sales, having worked for several realty companies in Ponca City. He was a member of the First Christian Church, the American Legion and the Jaycees. In 1990 he ran for District 20 state senate seat while active in the Republican Party. His enjoyments were his grandkids, times spent with family and friends and vacationing. 

He is survived by his wife Becky, of 45 years; twin sons, Jason Dean Abel and wife, Karrie, of Mobile, Alabama and Daniel “Danny” Glenn Abel of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one daughter, Allison Allensworth and husband Rick, of Ponca City; one brother, Ellis Abel and wife, Kay, of Enid, Oklahoma, and one sister, Deanna Barrett of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Jacob Lewis, Emily Allensworth, Chase Allensworth, Avari Abel and Adelynn Abel; other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013 at Grace Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the First Christian Church with Pastor Larry Metzger presiding. Interment will follow in the Longwood Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. 

Casket bearers will be nephews, Rhett Butler, James Butler, Andrew Cooper, Thaddeus Willison, Joshua Willison and Nathaniel Willison. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 210 North 5th, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
