Longwood Cemetery

Sherry Louise (Wright) Castleman
November 29, 1935 ~ August 19, 2022 (age 86)

Sherry Louise Castleman passed away on August 19, 2022, in Collinsville, Oklahoma.

Sherry was born to Orville Wright and Ruby Payne Wright in Perry, Oklahoma on November 29, 1935. Just a few months before her second birthday on September 10, 1937, her little brother Harvey Don was born. The family moved to Hermosa Beach, California in 1943 then returned to Oklahoma, settled in Ponca City, and enrolled the Sherry in Roosevelt Elementary School. She advanced to Ponca City Jr. High, and then attended high school in Marland, Oklahoma, and completed her education at Ponca City Business College. She later married Phillip Stephens in 1956 and lived in several places in Oklahoma including Ponca City, Perry, Bartlesville, and Tulsa. During this time, they had three children Norman Dean, Phillip Scott, and Neenah Diane. After their divorce in 1970, Sherry moved to Pasadena, Texas where she met Mel Castleman. They moved to Olive Branch, MS in 1986 then back to Tulsa in 1989 after Mel's passing.

Her greatest enjoyments in life were her children, their friends (many of whom called her Mom), her grandchildren, and their friends (many of whom call her Grandma), even though they are grown. As well as the rest of her family, her brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and all their families. She loved family reunions and "get-togethers" and visiting. She enjoyed listening to them play music and sing, although she claimed she never could. Her other interests included gardening, sewing, crocheting, flower arranging, crafts of all kinds, and genealogy.

Those left behind to cherish Sherry's memory are her children Dean, Scott, and Neenah Stephens, as well as her bonus children Jamin Castleman and Jill Castleman-Mitchell and many other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Mel Castleman.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Grace Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will take place 10 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Longwood Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma with Pastor Dennis Wildman officiating.
