John Franklin Rogers, longtime resident of the Shidler and Kaw City area, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in Ponca City. He was 81.

John was born April 22, 1929 at Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the son of Lewis Edward Rogers and Anna Rebecca Hudson Rogers. He was a 1948 graduate of Shidler High School. He was married to Erlene Louise Schauer on July 3, 1952 in Kaw City and to this union was born two children, Steve and Peggy. The family moved to Kaw City in 1978. After the death of his wife he was married to Doris Stover Gilmore on May 17, 1997.

Prior to Johns retirement he was employed as a supervisor with Phillips Petroleum Company. His enjoyments included traveling to the couples winter home in South Texas, playing golf, traveling, being with family and friends. One of the highlights of Johns life was at the age of 78 climbing the Great Wall of China.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home his two children, Steve Rogers of Ferndale, Washington and Peggy Rowe and husband, Joe, of Burbank, Oklahoma his stepchildren, Kent Gilmore and wife, Patty, of Rogers, Minnesota and Russell Gilmore and wife, Debbie, of Hobbs, New Mexico one brother, Harold L. Rogers and wife, Virginia, Oklahoma City one sister, Donna J. Iggena of Naples, Florida one brother in law, Richard Abe Schauer and wife, Catherine, of Blackwell, Oklahoma four grandsons, one granddaughter, six great grandchildren seven stepgrandchildren and ten stepgreat grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Erlene, in 1995.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the First Christian Church of Shidler with Pastor Doug Scott presiding. Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
