October 30, 1941 - January 26, 2025
Eugene Price Rodgers, 83, of Ponca City, OK, died on Sunday, January 26, 2025. Viewing will be between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2025, and 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2025. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the First United Methodist Church. Those unable to attend the Funeral Ceremony, may attend virtually on the Trout Funeral Home website, www.troutfuneralhome.com and click on the live-stream or toolbar icon on the top right corner after 1:45 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.
Gene was born on October 30, 1941, in Amarillo, TX, to James Price and Ethel N. (Neely) Rodgers. Gene married Betty Carole Teeter on December 18, 1979, in Perryton, TX. He was a route salesman for Moorehead Foods, and was a chef for the Ember's Steakhouse. He also owned Jack's Fruit Market and Carole's embroidery. He retired 2007, from the Texas County Detention Center as the kitchen manager. Gene coached girls softball for 9 years. He loved to collect coins, and fish. He later learned carpentry, and was very good at it. He was also known to tell a good joke. Gene and Carole loved to travel after retirement.
Gene is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carole of the home; daughters, Paula Rodgers of Aurora, CO, Leyla Wagner and her husband, Scott, of Huntington Beach, CA, Shellie Carter and her husband, Garry, of Kaw City, OK, Stephanie Furrer and husband Scott Pittsey Of Hastings, NE; son, Jeff Rodgers, of Albuquerque, NM; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way; several nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by: son, Darryl Kent Rodgers; great-grandson, Brynton Ridley; his parents, Price and Ethel; sister, Doris Bailey; and brother, Keith Rodgers.
Pallbearers will be Jordan Carter, Billy Rodgers, Baylor Roach, Caden Huckins, William Bridges, Lynn Teeter and Matthew Pittsey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Garry Carter, Nick Wagner, Bruce Rodgers, and Joe Muse.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 445 Fairview Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601, First United Methodist Church, PO Box 71, Ponca City , OK 74602, or Via Christi Village, 1601 Academy Rd, Ponca City, OK 74604
