Nelda Catheline Pemberton of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died early Wednesday morning, October 4, 2017, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home at the age of 91 years.

Nelda Catheline (Cassidy) Pemberton was born on September 23, 1926, on a farm southwest of Braman, Oklahoma, to Mike and Viola (Bryan) Cassidy. She grew up on the farm and attended Pleasant View School until it closed. Her two brothers and she then stayed on their grandmother Bryan’s farm to attend Dilworth School. Following its closure, she attended Blackwell High School and graduated in 1944. On March 7, 1946, she married Jack Winfred Pemberton in Wichita, Kansas, and their settled in Braman where she served her family as a homemaker. In 1950 they moved to Blackwell before moving to Green Mountain Falls, Colorado, in 1969. In 1987, they returned to Blackwell to make their home and be near family. Her husband preceded her in death on April 24, 2011, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the Blackwell Church of Christ.

She is survived by two sons, Don Pemberton of Newkirk and Brad Pemberton of Denver, Colorado; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Dorven Patrick Cassidy and James Hugh Cassidy.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 5th in the Braman Cemetery with Nelda’s family officiating.

A memorial has been established in her honor the Blackwell Church of Christ Missionary Fund in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.

Jack Winfred Pemberton of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday evening, April 24, 2011, in the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 89 years.

Jack Winfred Pemberton was born on January 20, 1922, in Fitzhugh, Oklahoma, to Lonnie Winfred and Frances Katherine (McDonald) Pemberton. As a young boy he moved with his family to Blackwell before locating in Dilworth, Oklahoma. While in elementary school he attended Rock Rural School and Dilworth High School graduating in 1940. Following his education he entered the C.C. Camp in Colorado before entering the United States Army Air Corps on October 22, 1942. While in the military he served with the 1328th Army Air Force Unit during World War II in the Burma-India Theater and flew supplies over the “hump.” Following his discharge on January 4, 1946, he married Nelda Catheline Cassidy on March 7, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, and they settled in Braman, Oklahoma. In 1950 the family moved to Blackwell and he worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Blackwell Zinc Company. In 1969 they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, and he worked for a short time for the City of Green Mountain Falls. He later began working in the water department for the City of Colorado Springs and retired after seventeen years in 1987. In 2001 they returned to Blackwell to make their home. He was a member of the Blackwell Church of Christ and held a life membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Nelda Pemberton of Blackwell; two sons, Donald J. Pemberton of Newkirk, Oklahoma, and Brad Pemberton of Denver, Colorado; two sisters, Nelda Ruth Starr of Breckenridge, Texas, and Peggy Lawson of Newkirk, Oklahoma; a brother, Donald Pemberton of Browning, Montana; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and eight step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Loyce McDaris and Billie Trenary.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 28th in the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe officiating. Burial will follow in the Braman Cemetery with military rites performed by the United States Army from Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.

Casketbearers will be Brad Pemberton, Don J. Pemberton, Joseph Pemberton, Champ Cain, Tim Walker and Ross Hiatt.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Blackwell Church of Christ in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
