Robert Derald Crow of Braman, died Sunday, September 14, 2008, at the Blackwell Regional Hospital in Blackwell, OK, at the age of 85 years.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 20, at the United Methodist Church in Braman with the Rev. C.M. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at the Braman Cemetery.

Casketbearers are Dr. Dennis Crow, Dr. Darolyn Crow McGinley, Brandon McGinley, Jordan Field, Shannon Leatherman, and Clint Arnold.

Robert Derald Crow was born May 8, 1923, in Caldwell, KS, to Robert Hanson Crow and Opal Mae (Brewer) Crow. At a young age he went to live with his grandparents, William Edmond and Ida Mae Brewer who raised him. He attended Braman Schools graduating in 1942. He then served in the U.S. Navy aboard the LST 602 from December 1942 through November of 1945 during World War II. He returned home on a 30 day leave and married Irene Clark on July 25, 1945, in Wellington, Kansas. After his discharge from the navy he returned to operate a restaurant in Billings, Oklahoma for a short period of time. In 1948 the Crows moved to a farm 3 miles west of Braman where he currently lived. He worked at the Blackwell Zinc Smelter, The Acme Foundry and Weaver Well Service while farming full-time. He continued to farm until his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, in August of 2004.

His hobbies included farming, mowing his yard, visiting with friends, keeping in contact with his navy shipmates, and sharing stories about his four great grandsons. He was an avid blood donor to the American Red Cross. His children, grandchildren, and four great grandsons were the joy of his life. He was dearly loved by everyone who knew him.

He was a member of the Braman United Methodist Church, American Legion, the VFW, the Elks and Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his daughter, Sonia Crow of Stillwater, his son, Randy Crow and wife Patricia of Blackwell; grandson Dr. Dennis Crow and wife Kristen of Frisco, Texas, and granddaughter Dr. Darolyn McGinley and husband Brandon of Norman, OK. ; also four great grandsons; Keegan and Riley Crow of Frisco, TX, and Luke and Ben McGinley of Norman, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Betty Crow.

Memorials may be made to the Braman Cemetery Association, c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, where he spent many hours tending the headstones and graves of family, friends, and neighbors.
