Leon Hudson Busby
November 22, 1939 - February 15, 2021
Leon Busby, 81 year old Woodward resident, passed away Monday of complications from Covid 19, February 15, 2021 in McAlester, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in the Living Word Fellowship with Reverend Eric Cox officiating. Interment will be in the Braman Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in Braman, Oklahoma, just a few steps from both of his parents and all four of his grandparents.
Leon Hudson Busby was born on November 22, 1939 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, the only child to Leonard and Rebecca (Peach) (Bridges) Busby. He grew up in Braman, Oklahoma and attended the small country school there. He attended Northwestern College for a short time before being inducted into the United States Army in 1963, where he served his country in Europe. He was stationed in Bamberg, Germany where he met his future wife of 55 years. He was honorably discharged in 1965 and returned to Oklahoma where his new soon to be bride later joined him.
Leon was united in marriage to Ursula Strauss on March 12, 1965 at the First Baptist Church in Norman, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Woodward and have lived here since that time. They were blessed with two children, Michael and Nicole.
He worked in the oilfield for Baker Oil Tools as a Service Manager and later as District Manager, and retired after 44 years with Baker. Leon then worked as an Oilfield Consultant with Plaster and Wald, until his real retirement in 2016.
He was a member of the Living Word Fellowship Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and taking the RV to Colorado to spend time in the mountains and spent most of the summers there until his health no longer allowed it. He loved being with his family and going to his lake house at Lake Eufaula. He would rather be there than just about any place else. He was also a master of the grill and the smoker, and always tried some new spice rub, just for fun. Leon was a member of the Woodward Gun Club where he taught Hunter Safety and Marksmanship classes to local kids for years.
Leon is survived by his wife Ursula Busby of the home; one son Michael Busby of Oklahoma City; one daughter Nicole Sears and husband, Kenny, as well as his grandson Brogan, all of Woodward; other relatives and many friends.
