Margaret Jane Porter, of Blackwell, Oklahoma passed away on February 16, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 79 years.

She was born on December 31, 1940 in Carbon Hill, Alabama the daughter of Howard William Watts and Ruby Lee (Maddox) Watts.

She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1959. She went on to attend the nursing program at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Margaret worked for Wonder Bread in Tulsa for many years. She also worked for Dresser Engineering Company. During this time she met Ronnie Dale Porter, and the two were married on August 23, 1986. He survives. Other survivors include a sister, Sandra Lee Gentry (Bill); as well as many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Margaret is also survived by her dear friend, Sherry Glenny.

Cooking was not one of Margaret’s strengths, and she was directionally challenged, however she was a wonderful housekeeper and she enjoyed reading her bible and was strong in her faith. Margaret loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed watching Alabama and Oklahoma sports, one of the highlights of her life as when she met Bear Bryant.

Margaret and Ronnie enjoyed traveling, and she was proud to have visited 46 out of the 50 states. Ronnie’s career took them all over the United States.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, 123 S. 1st Street, Blackwell. Rev. Rick Longcrier will officiate. Burial will follow at Blackwell Cemetery.

Casket Bearers will be Paul Little, Ryan Dembowski, Scott Wilson, Scott Gentry, Chris Gentry and David Gentry.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be the great nieces and nephews of Margaret Porter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Life Center at First Baptist Church, sent in c/o the funeral home.
