Helen Louise Pennington passed away Monday evening, October 15, 2012 in Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home at the age of 86.

Helen Pennington was born on August 23, 1926 in rural Blackwell, Oklahoma to Elmer and Mina (Bumgardner) Weigle. She grew up on the farm in Kay County and attended grade school at Lone Tree School just one quarter mile north of her home. She attended one year of school at Deer Creek and then graduated from Blackwell High School in 1944. She married Richard Pennington on November 16, 1946 in Winfield, Kansas, with her uncle, Frank Weigle, performing the ceremony. They were married for sixty-five years. She started and ended her home in Blackwell where she raised her family. Her working career started after high school when she went to work for Elmer Hermes, who taught her the basics of the insurance business. She continued to work until the birth of her daughter in 1948. She returned to work in 1967 to the Breece Insurance Agency. In 1969, she started her employment with the Loftis Agency and retired there after 20 yours in 1989. Helen was an active member of the First Christian Church. She loved to cook and bake, crochet, cross stitch and sew until the time came for her hands and eyes to keep her from it. She entered Hillcrest Manor Nursing home on November 18, 2011.

She is survived by her daughter, Candice Harraman and husband Fred, of Blackwell, Oklahoma; one son, Kirk Pennington and wife Gaye, of Hesston, Kansas; two sisters, Marian Collyar of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Wilma Stone of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Gerald Weigle of Kaw City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Jamie Simons of Stillwater, Oklahoma, Michael Harraman of Blackwell, Oklahoma, Erin Duvall of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Garrett Pennington of Manhattan, Kansas; and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents, and one brother Harvey Weigle.

Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 18, 2012, at the First Christian Church, Blackwell, Oklahoma, with the Rev. Jeff Koch officiating. Burial will follow at the Blackwell Cemetery, Blackwell, Oklahoma.

Casketbearers will be Chris Duvall, Garrett Pennington, Michael Harraman, Evan Simons, Troy Simons, and Art DeCamp.

A memorial has been established in her honor with Image Hospice c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 West Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
