Virginia Ann Marquardt of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home at the age of 87 years.

Virginia Ann Marquardt was born on February 1, 1927, in Medford, Oklahoma, to Gavino and Maria Vasquez. She grew up in Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools. She married Lawrence Frank Marquardt in February of 1948, in Blackwell and she worked for the Hazel Atlas Glass Plant. In 1956 she began a nursing career with Blackwell General Hospital. She also worked for the Becker Clinic and Morgan Clinic in Blackwell. After almost fifty years of medical service she retired in 1999. Her husband preceded her in death in September of 1997 and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she was active in the St. Vincent's community work, the Altar Society and church dinners. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, rock hunting and the many activities her children and grandchildren participated.

She is survived by two sons, Stephen Marquardt and wife Cheryl of Blackwell and Gary Marquardt and wife Kathy of Oklahoma City; and a grandson, Gavin Marquardt of Edmond, Oklahoma.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael Marquardt; and a granddaughter, Jordan Marquardt.

Prayer services are scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 20th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell. Funeral mass is set for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 21st in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Blackwell with Father Kevin Ratterman of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Honorary casketbearers will be Gavin Marquardt, Joe Harvey, Charles Trantham, Zach Trantham, Jerry Patterson, Zeke Hernandez Sr. and Zeke Hernandez Jr.

Memorials in her honor have been established with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or St. Joseph's Catholic Church in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
