August 25, 1939 - January 24, 2024

Arlen D. Byers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, went peacefully to meet his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at his home at the age of 84 years.

Arlen D. Byers was born on August 25, 1939, in Blackwell to Robert Wayne and Polly (Bridgewater) Byers. He attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating from Blackwell High School. He furthered his education by attending Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa where he received his associates degree before continuing at Oklahoma State University. He married Sonya Bradford on September 19, 1958, in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home.

Arlen was an active member of the Blackwell Christ of Christ where he was privileged to serve as a deacon and elder for 47 years. He was employed with Conoco for thirty years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he enjoyed working on the farm, as well as serving as the church secretary at the Blackwell Church of Christ. He loved his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf with friends and coaching little league.

He is survived by his wife, Sonya Byers of Blackwell; two sons, Brent Byers and wife Alissa of Buckeye, Arizona, and Jeff Byers and wife Devra of Blackwell; seven grandchildren, Matthew Byers and wife Taryn of Alva, Sarah Phillips and husband Lance of Edmond, Joshua Byers and wife Tres of Surprise, Arizona, Jordan Byers of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Kinze Byers of Blackwell, Vance Byers of Blackwell and Addison Byers of Blackwell; six great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dona Gibson of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and a niece, Andrea Leider and family of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, John Gibson; and a nephew, Brad Gibson.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27th in the Blackwell Church of Christ with Lanny Jobe of Stillwater Church of Christ officiating. Private burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Matthew Byers, Vance Byers, Lance Phillips, Joshua Byers, Mason Phillips and Ron Shoffner. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Bob Fletcher, David Kersey, Gail Moore and Paul Regier.

A memorial has been established in his honor with the Blackwell Church of Christ, 1035 S. Main, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
