James Henry Scott of Sioux Falls died Saturday, May 31 at the age of 62 following a long illness. He was born August 11, 1951 in Denison, Grayson County, Texas to Lloyd George and Margaret Mae [Moody] Scott. He was in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he had been receiving medical treatment when his death occurred.

During his boyhood, Jim spent many happy days fishing and hunting with his grandpa, gaining an appreciation for the outdoors. He dreamed of flying planes from an early age, later taking lessons and soloing in single engine aircraft as a young man. He went on to become a flight instructor. His talents in wood and leather work were also identified early by his high school shop teacher, leading to his future career in carpentry where he specialized in cabinetry. His mechanical aptitude enabled his abilities in the building trades including electrical, plumbing, and concrete work. He was employed in facilities management with the Haysville, Kansas school district for a number of years.

In recent years, Jim relocated to South Dakota in order to be near his sister and her family as his health declined. His sister Sherryl and her husband James Wieczorek of Sioux Falls, and their children Heidi, Jacob, and Ashlyn Wieczorek survive him. Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Services will be at a later date. He will be interred at Oak Grove Cemetery in Johnston County, Oklahoma.
