Mrs. Sarah Ann Adkins, pioneer resident of Jefferson County, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Hicks Smith, 5 miles south of Waurika, early Sunday morning, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Adkins was born in Texas, October 17, 1870.  Her husband died about 1918 & in 1919, she moved with her family to Jefferson county, OK, where she has continued to reside with the exception of a brief period when she made her home with a son near Rush Springs.

She is survived by 4 sons, & 2 daughters:  Ed Adkins of Rush Springs, Ben Adkins of Waurika, Route 2, Leon Adkins of Sugden, Tillman Adkins of McAlester, Mrs. Hicks Smith of Sugden & Mrs W O Edens of Pueblo, Colorado.  All of the childred attended the funeral.

Mrs. Adkins was a member of the Christian Church & funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Methodist Church in Sugden by Rev. G Lyle Smith, pastor of the Waurika Christian Church. 

Interment was in the Sugden Cemetery.
