Memorial Services for Samuel Leon Irwin, 90, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Steve Wilburn will officiate. Burial will be at Atwood Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the chapel.

Mr. Irwin passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Oklahoma City Veterans Hospital. He was born at Atwood, Oklahoma to Samuel A. and Ruby Ritter Irwin on June 5, 1926. He graduated from Atwood High School and attended East Central State College.

Mr. Irwin was a Rural Mail Carrier in Atwood and Ada. He was a referee and umpire of area high school sports and was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Ada. Leon was a past member and president of the Latta School Board and member of the Ada Masonic Lodge and McAlester Scottish Rite. Leon was the founder and President of the Latta Partners in Excellence Foundation. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II on the U. S. S. Pittsburgh. He was District President of the Rural Mail Carriers Association, and was a member of the Lakewood Sr. Golf Association. Leon loved reading and sports.

He and Jean were married August 16, 1968.

Survivors include his wife, Jean, of the home; a son, David Irwin of Midwest City; daughters, Dianne Schell and husband Randy of Arlington, TX and Stacy Irwin-Oakley and husband Arles of Ada; a step-daughter, Sherry Maddux and husband Don of Mooreland; a sister, Dorothy Douglas of Midwest City; his granddaughters, Lashun Oakley, Independence, KS and Shannon Owens and husband Chris, Victoria, TX; a grandson, Shane Moore, San Antonio, TX; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Milton Irwin; and a sister, Mae Jo Wagner.

Bearers will be the Latta Baseball Team. Honorary bearers will be the Ada U. S. Postal Employees; his friends, Bob Mayberry and Glen Gouge; and his cousin, Lane Ritter.
