Robert Louis "Bud" McDaniel

Bud, age 70, passed away on April 25, 2016 in Oklahoma City after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born February 28th 1946 at Capitol Hill Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Elvin and Frieda (Kiracofe) McDaniel. He was a graduate of Norman High School and he was active in sports where he participated in football and wrestling. He was Norman High’s 1st State Wrestling Champion of the modern era. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Business Administration and he was a member of the University of Oklahoma wrestling team. While a student at the University he was a member of the Army ROTC.

He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving with the 173rd Airborne “The Herd” and rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was a member of the US Army Wrestling team and spent several months traveling and wrestling with the team. He was an alternate on the Army’s Team to the World Wrestling Games at Edmonton Canada in 1970. In the fall of 1970 he went to Vietnam. While on his tour he served as payroll officer and field platoon leader. On December 18, 1971 he married Lora Kates. They made their home in Norman and in 1975 son Robert Brandon was born. The family later moved for a time to Claremore, Oklahoma. In 1979 the family returned to Norman to make their home and continues to live in the same home. In 1980 his most beloved daughter, Mary Brook, was born. He was a devoted father to both of his children, but his little daughter required much time and attention due to her health condition. He never wavered in his commitment to help care for this special needs daughter. Bud suffered greatly from this loss when she died in 2003. He spent more than 40 years working in the support of Industrial businesses that used ball bearings, gear boxes and many other industrial supplies. He first worked for Allied Bearings which was later bought by Kaman Industries. His territory was the Southwest portion of Oklahoma. He had provided service to many businesses and saw them as friends. He served multiple generations at several companies.

He is survived by his wife, Lora (Kates) McDaniel and son, Robert McDaniel and his companion Krisma McInroe. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Brook McDaniel. He is survived by grandchildren, Hailey Jennings, Brooke McDaniel, Kyle McDaniel and Mackenzy McInroe. Great grandchildren Vergil, Raina and Vincent. Siblings Gay McDaniel Sellers and the late David Sellers; Ken and Gerry McDaniel; Bill and Kay McDaniel; Diane McDaniel Fightmaster and Tom Fightmaster.
Sister-in-laws Donna Kates and Robert Bonner; Nancy and Steve Self; Brother-in-law Gary and Pat Kates; Nieces Cathy, Carolyn, Christine, Cindy, Kelly, Lisa, Dana, Stephanie, Edie, Christy, and Jamie; Nephews, Ken Robert, Mark and Robert, and the late Walter Sellers. Numerous great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by parents Elvin and Frieda (Kiracofe) McDaniel, mother and father-in-law Charlie and Helen (Brigance) Kates.

Service will be 3pm Saturday April 30, 2016 at Havenbrook Funeral Home, Norman, Oklahoma 2:00 pm Monday May 2nd at Mallory Chapel Stigler, Oklahoma 918 967 2133
Burial Garland Cemetery, Stigler, Oklahoma.
