Edgar Edward Pope

Edgar Edward Pope
April 2, 1931 ~ December 11, 2018

Edgar Edward Pope was born April 2, 1931 to Oliver and Eunice Pope of Knowles, Oklahoma. Edgar Pope, 87 retired farmer, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went to meet his maker on December 11, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Eunice; brothers, Donald Pope and wife Peggy; J.D. Pope and wife Carolyn; and grandson Corey Pope. He is survived by his wife Georgie Pope; daughter, Sandra Griffith of Gage, Oklahoma; sons, Dennis Pope and wife Alana of Yukon, Oklahoma and Terry Pope and fiancee Vonda Wilson of Wichita, Kansas along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edgar loved working with machinery and fishing. He worked hard growing up on a farm near Knowles, Oklahoma. Later in life he worked as a ranch hand for several of the local ranchers. He heard about a mining company paying good wages for miners in the Climax mine in Leadville, Colorado and decided to become a miner. We have many wonderful memories of our early years in the Colorado mountains, hiking, toboggan sledding and snowball fights. He worked in the mines for several years then decided to move back to Laverne, Oklahoma where he built and ran an A&W Root Beer stand. Later he sold the A&W and moved to Gage, Oklahoma where he did custom bailing for several years and later moved to Woodward and sold insurance. He then drove a cement truck for several years and finally went back to the farm where he seemed happiest. After retiring he moved to Woodward and enjoyed driving his lawn tractor, working in the yard and being involved in church activities.

Due to failing health Georgie and Edgar moved to the Baptist Village Assisted Living in Oklahoma City. Dad was later admitted to the nursing home at Baptist Village and remained there until he departed life on December 11, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2018 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Laverne Memorial Cemetery.
