NORMA GENE ANDERSON

Laverne – The funeral for Norma Gene Anderson, 59, was at 2 PM Tuesday at the Laverne United Methodist Church. The Revs. Charles Ryser and Wesley Peterman officiated. Burial was in Laverne Cemetery under direction of Seeger Funeral Home.

She was born January 18, 1934, at Englewood, Kansas, to Martin and Chloe E. McCorkle Ashcraft and died Saturday, June 26, 1993, at the family cabin in South Fork, Colorado. She attended Englewood schools and on May 28, 1950, married Richard Freedolf Anderson at the home of Ray and Mae Anderson, near Slapout. She worked as a nurse aide at Laverne General Hospital for seven years, until it closed. She also helped her husband with the ranching operation.

In 1978, she became an Emergency Medical Technician and spent many hours helping on the Laverne Ambulance. She became an outstanding instructor – coordinator and in 1986 received the Oklahoma State Award as "Instructor Coordinator of the Year." She also served on the State EMS Board. She was a member of Laverne United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Debra Jones of Broken Arrow and Cindy Weigant of Austin, Texas; one son, Danny of Laverne; her mother, Chloe Hitz of Hudson, Kansas; one brother, Melvin Ashcraft of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Nancy Unruh of Dodge City, Kansas, Gwen Harbarger of Wamego, Kansas; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Laverne New Ambulance Fund.
