CAROLYN MARIE Semmel YAUK

Woodward, Okla. — Carolyn Marie Yauk passed away after a short battle with cancer on February 3, 2011. She was born on November 3, 1937 as the first child of Dave and Marie (Mary) Semmel in Woodward, Oklahoma.

Carolyn graduated from Tangier High School in 1956. She attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University. On Christmas Eve 1956, her life changed forever. Elmer Yauk of Selman proposed marriage. They were united in marriage on June 7, 1957 in Woodward at Trinity Lutheran Church. They were blessed with four children: Joyce Carol, Marilyn Marie, Paul Elmer, and Linda Kay. Carolyn was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. Carolyn was a marvelous cook and homemaker who loved to prepare meals and take care of her family. She was Elmer’s right-hand woman on the farm near Selman. Carolyn crocheted many afghans for family and loved ones. She taught children’s Sunday school, vacation bible school, and was a volunteer reader to preschool children.

Carolyn was a long-time treasurer and member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and an active member of the Merry Workers Home Extension Club. Carolyn and Elmer were lifetime members of the American Historical Society of German’s from Russia.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her children, Joyce Yauk, Enid, OK; Marilyn Sellars and husband John, of Fairview, OK; Paul Yauk and wife Sarah of Buffalo, OK; and Linda Welch and husband Todd of Enid, OK. Also surviving are grandchildren, Katy and Clint Gates, Alex and Rachel Yauk, and Mark Todd Welch. Carolyn is also survived by sisters Norma Vanderslice, Virginia Norman, and Barbara Milton.

Memorials may be made through the Myatt Funeral Home to Zion Lutheran Church or Hospice Circle of Love, in care of the Myatt Funeral Home, P. O. Box 749, Buffalo, OK 73834.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo, Oklahoma with Reverend Randy Foote officiating. Interment followed the service in the Lutheran Cemetery, NE of Buffalo, Oklahoma. Arrangements were made through the Myatt Funeral Home in Buffalo, Oklahoma.
